Variations

People have mentioned to me that sometimes it seems like different people write different posts, that my writing style shifts an awful lot, and is it intentional?

First, yes, they're all me. No co-bloggers at this time (and for the Aerie, probably ever). Second, no, the different styles aren't affectation, really, just mood or mindset. What comes out is what comes out. Third, no, I do not have multiple personality disorder. Or at least I don't think we do.

However, since I too noticed the fairly distinct changes from one writing to another a while ago, I have been paying attention to how to summon one or another "personality" when the need suits a given article. I don't much do that here at the Aerie, where I basically just let fly with whatever comes to mind, but I have started doing it. Other blogs for more specific topics will be coming along shortly (they're on the other side of a project I promised myself I'd finish first), and they'll be given a style most appropriate to their mood and topic. Not an affectation, then, just the result of a deliberately cultivated frame of mind, as opposed to an unnatural behavior. I simply can't keep an actual affectation going for very long.
